Welwyn Roofbox Hire helps you carry the things that won’t comfortably fit in your car, without having to buy and store equipment you may only need a few times a year.
We’re a family-owned and run business based in Datchworth, Hertfordshire. Since 2015, we’ve helped customers make room for holidays, university moves, cycling trips, camping and plenty more.
It started with a storage problem
Our own 630-litre Thule roofbox was useful on the car, but rather less convenient when it overwhelmed an already full garage.
It occurred to us that other people must have the same problem. Hiring could give them the extra carrying space when they needed it, without the purchase cost or the question of where to keep everything afterwards.
And so Welwyn Roofbox Hire was born.
More than roofbox hire
As the business grew, so did our understanding of what customers needed to carry. Today, our hire range includes:
- Roofboxes — a choice of Thule sizes and models for luggage and bulky belongings.
- Roofbars — with vehicle-specific feet and fitting kits for compatible cars.
- Bike carriers — roof-mounted and towbar-mounted options.
- Towbar cargo carriers — additional luggage space using a compatible towbar setup.
- Ski carriers, ladder carriers and related accessories.
We hold over 140 Thule roofboxes — the South East’s largest stock — supported by an extensive range of roofbars and fitting kits. That gives us plenty of options when matching equipment to your car, your load and your dates.
Compatibility still matters: not every product fits every car. Tell us what you drive and what you need to carry, and we’ll help establish the suitable options.
Advice, fitting and a proper demonstration
You don’t need to know which model to ask for. We’ll work from your car details, hire dates and the things you want to take.
Roofbox hire includes compatible Thule roofbars where needed, professional fitting and removal, and a hands-on demonstration. We’ll show you how the equipment works and measure your car’s fitted height so you know what clearance to allow.
Our hire equipment is Thule. Having used it ourselves before starting the business, it was the natural choice when investing in equipment for our customers.
Come to us, or ask about delivery
Fitting and removal take place by appointment at our Datchworth premises, near Welwyn and the A1(M).
We also offer delivery and collection, normally within 25–30 miles. Charges and availability are confirmed with your quotation.
Already own your equipment?
We also offer professional fitting of customers’ own equipment, subject to its condition and compatibility with the vehicle.
